$3.6 Million Diamonds
This was the first story I ever wrote as a member of the newspaper staff. It was a story to follow up on the new turf softball and baseball fields following the season that ended over the summer. I talked to players and the coaches about how turf fields change the game and why they chose to invest in them.
The story was designed by a different staff member, but I took the photo.
World According to Michael Barta
A World According to is an alternative-form story that gives a profile of a teacher at the high school. It profiled business teacher and baseball coach Michael Barta, talking about his food allergies, Culver's obsession, and competitive nature. My favorite part of this story was interviewing his mom who gave an interesting point of view to the story.
The design was a product of many staffers.
All About U.S.
All About U.S. is an opinion piece about how the social studies course options offered at the high school are centered around America, and they don't offer many opportunities to learn about the rest of the world.
Alex Heron designed the layout.
Dear Toilet Paper Hoarders
This was my first attempt at designing a layout. For this, I accustomed myself to Adobe InDesign and Illustrator for the first time. I designed some fake toilet paper for the words to be placed on and took the photos to accompany it.
Caroline Christensen wrote the story.
Stronger Together Cover
This cover was where I really learned about Illustrator. I set my sights on creating this layout while in quarantine and did it. The three sections each represent things people were doing as part of their "new normal": grocery shopping, exercising, and finishing school from home. Everyone was separate but still strong.

We're Not Just Tired
This was an alternative-form story that mixed feature with commentary. It covers sleeping disorders that affect high schoolers.
